Convento do Beato : ウィキペディア英語版
Convent of Beato António
Convent of Beato António ((ポルトガル語:Convento do Beato António)) is a former convent, located in the civil parish of Beato, in the Portuguese municipality of Lisbon.
==History==
The primitive convent, built by King Afonso V, in fulfillment of the testamentary disposition of his wife, Queen Elizabeth, was founded by the Cónegos ''Seculares de São João Evangelista'' (''Secular Canons of St. John the Evangelist'') in the 15th mid-century. A chapel dedicated to of St. Benedict, used by the Bons Homens de Vilar already existed on the site, and was replaced by a chapel with a hospice.
In the period of the Phillipine dynasty, new convent and church were built at the site of the hermitage and small original convent, whose mission fell to friar António da Conceição, who lived there during the 16th century, giving rise to the place name ''Convent of Blessed Antonio.''〔 In 1633, construction of convent's new chapel was completed.
Within its interior was housed the pantheon of the Counts of Linhares in the new chapel, then completed in the 17th century.〔 Having withstood the 1755 earthquake, it was destroyed by fire at the end of the 18th century.〔〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.lifecooler.com/artigo/passear/convento-do-beato-antonio/326743/ )〕 The kitchen, dining room and the novitiate were the only sections that survived the destruction.〔
With the extinction of the religious orders in 1834, the church was looted, resulting in the loss of many of carved ornaments, paintings and liturgical vessels.〔
Already in private hands and adapted to other functions the building was underwent several restoration campaigns that included the cloister.〔 The new temple of Mannerist and Baroque architecture, was classified as a property of public interest.〔
On the evening of 28 July 2004 a fire gutted the building, destroying about 70% of the building. Restoration of the building was completed in May 2005.〔 Since the late twentieth century building has been used for cultural events and social causes. The German band Scorpions had one of the three concerts, based on their 2001 live album (''Acoustica'') in Convento do Beato.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.the-scorpions.com/english/tourography/acoustica_tour_2001.asp )
